More About the T20 Cricket World Cup
For cricket fans, the T20 World Cup is more than just a tournament. It’s a stage where different nations get to showcase their talents in epic clashes. Of course, it’s also a tournament where they can watch their favorite cricketers compete.
The T20 World Cup is managed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the first edition of this tournament happened in 2007. Since then, the World Cup has only seen eight editions as it was generally only held every 2 years.
This was also impacted by the pandemic because the 2020 edition had to be postponed until the following year.
The upcoming T20 World Cup is scheduled on June 4 to June 30, 2024. It will be hosted by the West Indies and the United States. 20 teams will battle on the field in a total of 55 matches.
2024 T20 World Cup Cricket Teams
Before ending up with 20 teams competing in the T20 World Cup, a total of 66 countries are participating in the qualifying process. These teams are from Europe, Africa, Asia, the Americas, and the EaP.
As of writing, there are already 15 teams that are officially joining the tournament in 2024:
The United States, West Indies, India, England, Pakistan, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, The Netherlands, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Scotland, Ireland, and Papua New Guinea.
There are still a few qualifier matches left that will take place from September to December this year. Here they are:
- Americas Qualifier: September 28 – October 8, 2023
- Asia Qualifier: October 30 – November 9, 2023
- Africa Qualifier: November 20 – December 1, 2023
These qualifiers will be played in Bermuda, Nepal, and Namibia.
Once the 20 teams competing are complete, they’ll be divided into four groups of five. After that, the top two teams will advance to the Super 8 round. Once that concludes, the qualifying teams will again be split into two groups of four.
The top two teams after that will then proceed to the knockout stage which are the semi-finals and final.
2024 T20 World Cup Schedule and Venues
The ninth edition of the T20 World Cup will kick off on June 4, 2023, and the matches will be played at venues in the Caribbean and the USA.
There’s no official info yet on where certain group stages will be played. What we know is that 13 cricket stadiums will be used in the West Indies and 10 venues in the United States.
Based on reports, the shortlisted venues in the US include Lauderhill in the state of Florida. We know that this venue is also set to host a match between the West Indies and India. Aside from Lauderhill, venues in Morrisville, Dallas, and New York are also being considered.
Specific names of stadiums that might be used include the Central Broward Regional Park, Moosa Stadium, BPL Cricket Ground, Indianapolis World Sports Park, and Woodley Park.
We’ll likely receive an update on where the official venues will be after the qualifiers.
For the knockout stages, the 1st semi-final is scheduled on June 26, 2024. The second final is on the next day, June 27. The final will then be held on June 30, 2024.
T20 World Cup Official Broadcasting Partners
Of course, many cricket fans and T20 World Cup Satta players need to know where they can watch the tournament live.
The ICC has made a long-term partnership deal with Sky Sports. So unless they announce otherwise, all ICC cricket events will be broadcast by the same media company until 2031 in the UK and Ireland.
If you prefer live streaming, your best bet is ICC TV. No official announcements have been made about the matches streaming on popular sites like Disney+ Hotstar.
Conclusion
As the T20 World Cup fever takes hold, we’re sure that cricket fans and cricket betting enthusiasts are looking forward to seeing the full list of teams participating and all the venues.
The tournament is less than a year away, so for now, it’s just really a waiting game for all of that to unfold.
