Yusuf Pathan:
Yusuf Pathan has the record for the fastest century scored by an Indian in IPL history.
Pathan, who was playing for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the IPL 2010, smashed a century in just 37 balls at the Brabourne Stadium against the Mumbai Indians.
- Mumbai had batted first and posted a mammoth total of 212/6. In reply, Pathan brought RR back into the game single-handedly as he went on a rampage.
- However, once he was dismissed, RR fell short by four runs.
- Pathan was especially harsh on the spinners, slamming them all across the park. He was finally out when he was run out, thanks to an accurate throw from Rajagopal Satish.
Mayank Agarwal:
The second fastest Indian century in IPL came from Punjab Kings’ (then Kings XI Punjab) Mayank Agarwal, who smashed it in just 45 balls.
It was the ninth match of the 2020 IPL season where Punjab were up against Rajasthan at Sharjah.
- Punjab had batted first, and riding on this century and Agarwal’s fellow opener KL Rahul’s 69, they had posted a massive 223/2.
- In reply, Rajasthan were powered by Steve Smith (50) and Sanju Samson (85) as they had reached a respectable 202/3 in the 18th over.
- But it was Rahul Tewatia (53 off 31) who would smash Sheldon Cottrell for five sixes in the 17th over and help snatch the deal for RR, who would win the match by four wickets.
- Despite Agarwal’s century, the team ended up losing which was such a shame.
Murali Vijay:
The third century we are revisiting belongs to Murali Vijay, who played for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2010.
It was during this season that CSK were up against the Rajasthan Royals.
- CSK batted first, and Vijay got down to task. He took some initial balls to settle down before he started to launch himself over the bowlers, finishing his hundred off just 46 balls.
- And he got great support from the likes of Matthew Hayden (34) and Albie Morkel (62) as CSK posted a massive score of 246/5 at Chepauk.
- In reply, Rajasthan gave this total a hot pursuit, with the likes of Naman Ojha (94) and Shane Watson (60) joining hands.
- But once the stand was broken, RR was left with a lot to achieve in the last few overs, and eventually lost the match by 23 runs.
Virat Kohli:
It was the breakthrough season for King Kohli as he went on to smash 973 runs, which also had four hundreds. One of these hundreds came against Kings XI Punjab which came at Chinnaswamy Stadium in front of a vociferous home crowd.
- The match was truncated to 15 overs due to rain, and Kohli came out to open with RCB batting first. He took his own time before launching himself on the bowlers, smashing his century in just 47 balls.
- RCB would post a humongous 212-run target for KXIP, who were never in the chase.
- They lost the match by 82 runs.
Virender Sehwag:
Sehwag smashed his century in 48 balls, which came at Hyderabad in the 2011 season of the IPL.
- It was the Deccan Chargers who batted first, and riding on Jean Paul Duminy (55) and Kumar Sangakkara (44), they posted a stiff 175/5 on the board.
- In reply, Delhi Daredevils needed a big impetus which came from the skipper, who smashed a century even as the whole top order crumbled around him.
