Did you know there’s a connection between standing desk and feng shui?
Also called Chinese geomancy, feng shui is the ancient traditional practice of arranging the things where you live or work to use energy forces to harmonize with your environment.

What does that have to do with standing desks?
Since it’s literally where you work, your standing desk is a miniature version of your office. It’s designed to help you stay productive by letting you work continuously for hours without the discomfort of having to sit the whole time. But, it can also help boost your focus and concentration with a few tweaks. Feng shui it, if you will.
Below are five tweaks you can make that are surprisingly simple and easy:
Adjust Your Standing Desk and Computer Screen Correctly
You need to know how to adjust the height of your stand-up desk and computer screen’s position to make sure you’re comfortable and hardly at any risk of injury while working.
Let’s start with your standing desk. Set it to the height of your elbows. That means they should be positioned 90 degrees from the floor.
Let’s move on to your computer screen. The consensus is to place it 20–28 inches away from your face. A good rule of thumb is to have it no less than the distance from your middle finger’s tip to your elbow. From there, tilt it so it’s eye-level but pointed upwards at between 10 and 20 degrees so you don’t have to tilt your neck up or down and strain yourself.
Change The Positions of Your Mouse and Keyboard
Whether using a regular desk or a sit-stand desk, working long hours can strain anyone’s wrists. There are ways to avoid this, but the ones for sit-stand desks are a little different.
As you’ll be standing from time to time, keep your wrists slightly tilted upward so they don’t get sore while making sure your mouse and keyboard stay at the same level.
If your wrists still get sore, use gel mouse pads and an adjustable keyboard stand for support.
Get Appropriate Arm Supports
The armrests on your office chair were made to let you rest your arms when needed, but they won’t be as effective when using an adjustable standing desk as you’ll be standing at least half the time. That means you need to get new arm supports.
That doesn’t mean you need to replace your office chair’s armrests. There are arm supports with soft padding that can be attached to your standing desk, letting you work just as comfortably as when sitting down.
Stand on Something Soft and Comfortable
While a standing desk lets you alternate between sitting and standing so you don’t get uncomfortable seated for too long, standing for hours can be just as painful. To prevent this, plant your feet on something relaxing, like an anti-fatigue mat.
Commonly used in jobs that require standing for extended periods (ex: working at a counter), anti-fatigue mats fight off fatigue brought on by standing for hours by encouraging subtle leg movements, improving blood flow to the leg muscles and reducing overall discomfort.
Use a Lacrosse Ball to Release Built-up Tension in Your Feet
If you still experience discomfort even when using an ergonomic standing desk and following the tips previously mentioned, the problem might be tension built up in your feet. Alleviate this by rolling your feet on a lacrosse ball. These balls can be used to release built-up feet tension by occasionally rolling the balls of the feet on them while standing, letting users keep working with hardly any trouble.
Standing desks are great for staying healthy even at work, but you may need to do a little feng shui and make a few adjustments not only to your workstation but the way you work to get the most out of it. Once you do, you’ll be as productive and focused as you never thought you could be.
